In 1929, the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased a group of 50 of these 39’ single dome tank cars. The American Car and Foundry had built them in 1916. The cars were used in company service. This unit was serviced on April 12, 1956, and repainted in this scheme of Pennsy freight car red with white lettering. It is a class TM8 tanker and holds 8,000 gallons. The Pennsylvania State Legislature chartered the PRR on April 13, 1846 to build a line from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh as a replacement for the troubled canal system between the two cities.
